Award-winning celebrity hairstylist and educator t Monaè Everett has launched a new book to help industry hopefuls elevate their careers. Get Out Of Your Own Way! 25 Insider Tips for Booking Celebrity Hairstyling Clients shares her secrets of success that took her from working in a small-city salon to booking celebrity clientele across the world and working with major publications.

For the past two decades, she has worked on sets for and been published by a wide range of media, from Harper’s BAZAAR and Yahoo! to InStyle and ESSENCE. Through her own experiences, she not only realized many hairstylists are not only ill-equipped to get in the door to book celebrity clients, but also aren’t prepared.

Get Out Of Your Own Way! guides readers through 25 tips and personal stories to help hairstylists to break into the industry, as well as help them to match their skills with their dreams/expectations.

“I am so excited to share my experience with hairstylists who want more from their career,” says Monaè. “Many times, hairstylists have shared their frustrations for not achieving the career they want because they have made the wrong moves out of desperation. My hope is to empower and equip artists with actionable information they can implement for success.”

Tips include learning how to break self-sabotaging behaviors such as displaying unfinished hairstyles, pitching incorrectly, and lack of professionalism with hiring managers. The book also helps address the concern the industry-at-large continues to face with lack of hairstyling diversity and expertise. Many Black entertainers have taken to twitter to discuss their many on set horror stories using #ActingWhileBlack. Though it is difficult to pinpoint the numbers, the lack of diversity in hairstyling on set has been commented on within multiple articles by supermodel Leomie Anderson and Lorraine Toussaint, both of whom are clients of Everett.

“I’m often asked about the lack of diversity behind the scenes and on production sets,” she adds. “I believe this can be changed by leveling the playing field through education and access.”

Get Out Of Your Own Way! features a foreword by hair industry heavyweight Tippi Shorter and is available now for immediate download. For more information or to download, visit www.TheMonaèLife.com/Gooyow
