February 12, 2020 (NEW YORK, NY)—ESSENCE, the number one media, technology and commerce company serving Black women, is back at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) with the return of its signature ESSENCE Fashion House on February 13th at Union West. With robust experiences—including top-of-the-line fashion shows, conversations, masterclasses, designer showcases, photo exhibitions and more— ESSENCE Fashion House isa celebration of the creative genius and talent within the Black fashion community.

While Black designers continue to break important barriers in the fashion industry, Black designers and creatives still face significant systemic barriers to success. ESSENCE Fashion House was designed to leverage ESSENCE’s global platform to convene fashion industry leaders, Black creatives and designers to collaborate, build economic empowerment and foster inclusion for those who often still remain on the margins of the fashion industry.

Building on ESSENCE Fashion House’s successful NYFW debut last September and inaugural Best in Black Fashion Awards dinner, ESSENCE returns this February to spotlight Black luminaries who are making waves and creating their own lanes in fashion.  The day-long gathering will feature Black-owned fashion and accessory designers, as well as exclusive programming to elevate the Black fashion community and the fashion experience for Black consumers.  The event will also feature three runway shows with up-and-coming Black designers, Esé Azénabor, LeVenity, and Carlton Jones showcasing their latest collections, followed by exclusive talks with the designers.

Fashion spotlights taking place during ESSENCE Fashion House will include:

“We are thrilled to bring back ESSENCE Fashion House to showcase Black excellence in fashion and illustrate that diversity and representation in fashion is more than just a trend,” said MoAna Luu, ESSENCE Chief Content & Creative Officer, Essence Communications, Inc. “It will be a beautiful gathering and ESSENCE is proud to use our platform to celebrate Black designers, talent, creatives and fashion enthusiasts across the globe.”

The ESSENCE Fashion House is sponsored by Target, a retailer with a longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. Target celebrates Black History Month with events for its team, and throughout the past five years, a curated product collection for its guests nationwide. This year the retailer’s Black History Month themed collection is “Black Beyond Measure,” featuring an assortment of products that shine a spotlight on the heritage, legacy and impact of the Black community through stories of Black entrepreneurs, Black-owned businesses and company founders, as well as Target team members who helped bring the collection to life.
